AEC Narrow Fabrics has bought a controlling interest in Honduras-based elastics manufacturing plant Telas Elasticas SARL (Tesa) for an undisclosed sum.
The acquisition of its fifth plant expands the US company’s product line and development capabilities, prompting it to claim to be “the most capable, full-range narrow fabrics producer in North and Central America”.
“This is a significant strategic step for AEC,” said company president Bob Lawson. “We are now a full-range supplier of narrow elastics and rigid fabrics.”
The Tesa plant will manufacture jacquards and intimate apparel elastics, Lawson added, while AEC’s facility in El Salvador will focus on knitted production, helping to boost capacity by more than 30%.
“We have increased our ability to support our customers as they increase their production in central and north America and move more programmes back from Asia,” Lawson said.
