We are a Christian non-profit organization called Niños de la Luz (Children of the Light). We have a boy's home (orphanage), with 20 boys -- ages 8 to 24. We also have a grammar school, with 109 children attending classes, including eight boys from the home. We are located in La Ceiba (Atlantida) in Colonia Armenia Bonito, behind Goloson airport. We are in big need of volunteer teachers.

ATLANTIC BILINGUAL SCHOOL (ABS) is a private institution located in Puerto Cortes, Honduras, which is a tropical location that has the most important port in Central America. Our school serves from Kindergarten to 11th grade and is currently seeking English speaking teachers for different areas such as Language Arts, Social Studies, Science and Math to ensure a truly bilingual education.

Spanish skills are helpful although not mandatory. Applicants must have a college/university degree.

Be open to experience a rich new culture and be willing to provide a wholesome, caring, but rigorous education to our children.

There are more than a million Hondurans living and working around the world. Many of them have expertise, experience, talents, and contacts that can be tapped to help develop Honduras.

Help teach Kinder - 6th grade at our Jungle School, located next to the Rio(river) Cangrejal behind La Ceiba Honduras. Volunteers work with our students in the morning at our school (M-F). Then in the afternoons you can teach/tutor our kids at our orphanage in subjects such as English, arts & crafts,dance, theater, computer skills, music etc. Any skill that you can share with our kids which can help them in their development would be greatly appreciated and highly rewarding.

A teacher certificate is not necessary just the desire & passion to share what you know with our kids is enough.

Spanish skills are necessary but not required. (what a better way to learn Spanish)

We also need large groups to help us in the construction of the new home(orphanage) for our 22 kids that are now living in a cramped 3 bedroom house. The land has been donated and construction has begun and is well underway. We look forward to hearing from you and thanks!

Georgetown School has been the only bilingual school in the valley of Jesus de Otoro, Honduras for over 15 years Georgetown School is a non-profit institution which was founded as a response to the need of learning a second language in an underdeveloped country in order to assure success in universities and the working field.

We are looking for people to join with us in our pursuit! We seek adults with some teaching experience to spend at least three months with use during the regular North American school year. Two-month projects are also available. Spanish language skills are not required. Room and board provided in a comfortable house beside the school. 3 meals a day are provided and include local and North American foods. This position has monthly wage of 3000 Lempiras plus an extra 500 Lempiras for tourist travel. Airport pick-up and drop-off is arranged by the school. Customs fees and reasonable health costs are covered by the school.

The Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) signed an agreement with Honduras' Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock to provide more than Lps 5 million for a scholarship program that will allow 40 youth from the Ladina, Nahua, Misquita and Pech indigenous tribes to study agricultural sciences at the University of Honduras and at the Pompilio Ortega school in Macuelizo (Santa Bárbara) and the John F. Kennedy school in the department of Atlántida. The scholarships are for 2010.

The Caroline Foundation in Madrid, Spain announced on December 15, 2009 that it had begun offering 1,645 postgraduate educational scholarships for students from Latin American countries for the period 2010-2011. For the tenth consecutive year, the foundation is giving priority to students from Bolivia, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Paraguay, and Perú. Applications will be accepted through March 1, 2010.

There is a severe food shortage in much of the Cangrejal River watershed (Cuenca), including many of our Jungle School families. We are providing food to a few families, but the need is much greater than our ability to help. At least here, we need the packaged fortified rice called Kids Against Hunger and Feed the Starving Children. There are identified sources ready to ship, but we need to cover shipping costs and Helping Honduras Kids (http://www.helpinghonduraskids.org) is broke.
